Final Project 3: Abstract Photo Series

I created the focal point by focusing on the purple flowers. There’s so many green leaves compared to each flower. Although, some of the flowers are not ‘in focus’ it’s still clear that they are the intended focal point.

The color scheme is definitely cool. (Green and purple) I edited the photos to have a yellow temperature to them to make them feel more summertime like. I think this made the cool feeling pop even more.

The illusion of space is created by the leaves laying in front of and behind each other. Then in front of and behind the flowers also.

Session 14: Ad Analysis
1. Focal point- The fp would be the rainbow made of crackers. Specifically the yellow line because the fish are facing the opposite direction.
2. Unity- All the goldfish in the rainbow are unified by shape, direction and line.
3. Integrity- The text towards the top right and bottom right is all black. The colors orange, yellow, green, and purple are basically the only other repeated colors in this ad.
4. Curvilinear line- The cuved line that the rainbow makes, creates a playful vibe. Since goldfish have a target audience of younger children, they had to make the ad more playful and appealing.
5. Gaze Motion- I would say the rainbow draws your eyes both ways. To the right, to read the text..and to the left, where all the images are below.
6. Texture adds interest- The grated cheese and the drawn goldfish bring a little bit of textured flavor to this add. Without them, the ad would feel and seem flat.
7. Focal point is one big thing- Now, while the yellow line of goldfish is technically the fp because it is facing the opposite direction, the rainbow as a whole is what your eyes notice first and foremost.
8. Color Scheme- The color scheme is warm and cheery. Even though there is green and purple, they are deep hues so they feel warm next to the yellow and orange. They do not give me a cool vibe/feeling.
9. content vs form- while the rainbow is the fp and maybe the most interesting point of this ad, the content of what it’s made of is more important. It shows what they’re selling, adds texture, and is the main set up for the color scheme.
10. Balance- The sun and the text above the rainbow, balances out the 4 bottom squares. Without either of them, one or the other would be too heavy to stand alone. The page would seem way to off balanced.

Project 3: abstract photo sketches

My focal point is the orange column. (as a whole, not just the color or the crayons)

This is made through break in color pattern. Also, a break in color scheme. (warm vs cool).

I used Rose Art crayons, a white canvas board, and a blow dryer.

The crayons basically go which ever way they want. I couldn’t fully control them.

This project was kind of difficult for me. I like the whole melted crayon idea, but creating a focal point that was good enough for this class was kind of hard. Just the plain color break wasn’t/isn’t enough.

I left just the orange crayons up top to really make the orange stand out. (plus it creates more depth to the whole thing).

Texture was created by the wax on the paper. That one is pretty self explanatory. I left the little droppings to dry at the bottom because that just emphasizes the texture of the piece.

“Not Final Project 2: Texture Composition”

The focal point would be the orange crayon. It was going to originally just be the orange color, but the crayon fell down on its own so I decided to keep it. I made sure to put blue on BOTH sides of the orange to make it stand out more. Change in color, contrast, and color temperature.

I used a white little canvas board from walmart, and blue and orange crayons.

I melted them with a hair dryer. The Hardest part was making sure the colors didn’t run where they weren’t supposed to. They went all over on their own.  I could only control their general direction by moving the hair dryer.

The texture is created by the wax on the canvas. I left the duct tape across the crayons to create another feel of texture.

session 12:

I’m still unsure of which way I want to go with this.

I can either do a different colored focal point, or make the focal point a change in color tone. (warm vs cool colors)

I need any suggestions I can get.

If this type of focal point doesn’t cut it then I really have no idea what to do.

11: texture shot progress.

im not sure if i want to put it horizontal or vertical. i also dont know if i want to block off a section shaped like a heart in the middle (so the wax will run around it to make a heart) or not.

session 11 ad: excersize

Focal Point is achieved through movement. The beam of light makes your eye look at the shoe directly. The balance is nothing special. The shoe is right in the middle of the page, but the Text up top and bottom of it balances each other out. Color isn’t used as much as value. There’s only black, white, yellow, and different shades of each. The shoe looks more flat to me. The texture is implied by the wall’s holes. It gives me the feeling that the shoe is in the bottom of a dark basement or cement well. This ad is more idealistic. you can’t really free the sole to a shoe. But the whole command tone, makes you feel as if you’d be doing your shoes a favor if you spent money on these. No buyers remorse that way..

Materials:

Canvas

Crayons

Blow Dryer.

Im going to melt the crayons onto the canvas, but keep the crayons up top.

They will all be the same color except for one. (or maybe 2 or 3. I have not decides yet)

The alligator’s skin adds a rough flaky texture. They also used size to scale ratio. the alligator looks HUGE because he is bigger than a person.

The Gum adds a sticky, wet texture to the picture. They also balanced out the heavy shoe & gum with the text rectangle.

The lathered soap adds a bubbly wet texture to the picture. It also has asymetrical balance. the bottom left corner balances out the ‘heavy’ feel of the soap.
